TempoMapper — Tap a Tempo Map to Any Audio | Nathan Hofheins
Vision Music Publishing

Some music was never
played to a click.

TempoMapper builds a beat grid against real audio — a live take, a rubato performance, a cue composed wild. Record or import, tap the tempo, and export a tempo-perfect MIDI map, click, and stems to your DAW.

Inside the App

Tap it. See it. Trust it.

TempoMapper editor — waveform with beat anchors, meter lane, and tempo readout
01  /  The editor

The beat, exactly where it happened

Tap downbeats and beats while the audio plays — the grid, bar numbers, and time signatures write themselves, meter changes included. Then refine: drag an anchor, snap it to a transient, quantize a selection. The tempos recompute; the beats stay where the music put them.

TempoMapper recording — live waveform, input meter, and audio I/O routing
02  /  Recording

Capture and map in the same pass

Record from any connected interface — multi-channel, with input-channel and output-pair selection, monitoring through any output. The waveform draws as you record, takes become stems automatically, and you can tap the tempo live while tracking.

TempoMapper reference video — floating video panel following the transport over the editor
03  /  Reference video

Picture and performance, in step

Import a concert or scoring video: its audio becomes a stem, and the picture rides in a floating, resizable panel that follows the transport — frame-accurate while scrubbing. Map a live performance against exactly what happened on stage.

TempoMapper bounce for DAW — export sheet with tempo resolution options
04  /  Export

Out to your DAW, tempo-perfect

Bounce the tempo MIDI, a click, and every audible stem — aligned to bar one. Compound meters carry the felt beat, and Fine resolution traces every ritardando and accelerando as a smooth ramp with beats kept sample-exact.

Who It's For

One app. Three rescues.

The Scoring Studio

You composed it wild — now the session needs bars, beats, and a click. Tap the map to your own performance and send the grid to your DAW or straight to CueConductor.

  • Tap live while recording
  • Odd & asymmetrical meters (7/8 as 2+2+3)
  • Tempo ramps traced smoothly
  • Bounce to DAW or CueBuilder™

The Session & The Stage

A recorded performance needs a conductable click — for a re-record, a live-to-picture show, or a hybrid set. Map the original recording and every bar lands where the orchestra played it.

  • Map against concert video
  • Meter changes detected while tapping
  • Click in the felt beat (6/8 in two)
  • Snap anchors to real transients

The Rescue Job

An AI-generated track, a live jam, a Smart Tempo guess gone wrong. Import the audio, fix the beats by hand in minutes, and export a corrected tempo track your session can actually follow.

  • Rescue AI tracks with no grid
  • Correct auto-detected tempo maps
  • Per-stem transient detection
  • Works on iPhone, iPad & Mac
Capabilities

Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

01

Tap tempo, any meter

Tap on screen, on keys, or from a MIDI controller. Meters are detected as you tap — including asymmetrical patterns — and you tap the beat you actually conduct: quarter, dotted-quarter, half.

02

Precision editing

Drag, nudge, quantize, and snap anchors to detected transients. Note values are bar-local, so an eighth note means that bar's eighth through every rit, accel, and meter change.

03

Real recording I/O

Multi-channel interfaces, input-channel and output-pair selection, and independent monitoring — recording studio routing, not consumer-app routing.

04

Reference video

A floating, resizable video panel follows the transport frame-accurately, and the video's audio becomes an ordinary stem you can map against.

05

Self-contained projects

A project is a folder — recordings, imported audio, video, and waveforms live inside it. Move it, back it up, hand it off; nothing is ever lost or orphaned.

06

Tempo-perfect export

MIDI tempo map, click, and stems — aligned to bar one, felt-beat click hints included, with Fine resolution ramps for expressive tempo. Into any DAW, or straight to CueBuilder™.

How It Works

From free take to locked grid.

01

Create a project

Record a performance straight into TempoMapper, or import stems, a bounce, or a video. Everything lives in one self-contained project folder.

02

Tap the tempo

Play the audio and tap downbeats and beats as you hear them — even live, while recording. Bars, beats, and meter changes appear as you go.

03

Refine the map

Zoom in and put every anchor exactly on the music — snap to transients, quantize, nudge. The grid recomputes around your edits.

04

Bounce it out

Export the tempo MIDI, click, and stems to any DAW — or hand the finished cue to CueConductor and take it to the podium.

The CueConductor Suite

From the first take to the downbeat.

TempoMapper is the front of a complete pipeline: map the tempo, build the cue in CueBuilder™, and conduct it live with CueConductor — stems, click, streamers, and video locked to one transport. TempoMapper is included in CueConductor with Pro, and available standalone.
